The Railport system

On track with the Railport system – no siding required

skip: On track with the Railport system – no siding required
DB Schenker Rail closes the gap down to the last mile with its innovative Railport system, available at numerous locations in Germany and Europe.

Hitherto the freight railroad was not an option for many consignors for a simple reason – it was dependent on a siding at both ends of the transport chain, or alternatively on the use of swap bodies in Combined Transport. But this solution is in many cases unsuitable, above all for the transport of bulk goods.

These restrictions imposed severe limits on the numbers of rail users in the past – above all they made it difficult to provide area-wide service to the customer. This gap has now been closed by the Railport system.

Railports are open to all kinds of goods

Railports are designed to handle the widest possible range of products, whether packaged or unpackaged, solid or liquid, loaded on pallets or in the form of bulk goods. Depending on the needs of the case, we have the right transshipment equipment available – from fork lift trucks to conveyor belts, from excavators to gantry cranes.

Combining the advantages of rail, road and regional depots

Railports facilitate the careful and efficient transshipment of goods between road and rail. The goods may be transferred directly, or else they can be put into intermediate storage. DB Schenker Rail will then deal with the subsequent logistics in accordance with requirements.

The range of logistics services offered by Railports is as varied as the preferences of our customers, extending to include stock management, customs clearance and quality controls.

With its Railport system, DB Schenker Rail first of all offers the option of systematically transferring truck shipments to rail and replacing them with just-in-time solutions. And then too, the system allows you to reduce your own warehousing requirements – substituting a combination involving the main leg of transport by rail, transshipment of goods, storage at the Railport and pre-carriage and onward carriage by road.

So Railports combine the advantages of road and rail transport, offering you new possibilities in terms of service and cost benefits.
